Host the Perfect Baby Shower

Baby Shower Planning

A baby shower allows friends and family to get together to celebrate the expected birth of a child. It’s also a great way to stock up on all of the essentials the parents will need when the baby arrives. Typically, a close friend, co-worker, or family member takes on the responsibility of hosting the shower. However, if the mom-to-be loves to party plan, then she can help as well.

An ideal amount of time to have a baby shower is four to six weeks before the mother is due. This will give the parents enough time to exchange duplicate gifts and buy last minute items they still need. Another reason not to wait too long is so the mother can enjoy herself without feeling too uncomfortable.

Let the Fun Begin

To help you decide on a theme, take inspiration from the mom-to-be’s personality and the things that she loves. This should give you a good starting point as to what colors and patterns to incorporate. Then, you can begin planning the following:

  • Food – A simple menu is excellent, but you still want to offer your guests different options to accommodate dietary restrictions. You can make the event casual and relaxed by serving small finger foods that are easy to prepare and don’t require utensils to enjoy.

  • Sweets – Dessert tables are always a hit. Go all out by serving different sweets such as cupcakes, cookies, mini pies, and a special cake that’s designed around the theme of your baby shower.

  • Games – If you want your guests to enjoy some fun activities during the shower, there are many different games you can play. Have guests decorate bibs or onesies with fabric paint. Not only is this a fun way for everyone to tap into their creative side, but the baby also gets to wear all of the fun and unique designs each loved one makes. Another great idea is posting different photos of each of the guests as babies and seeing who can guess which person is who. The winner who gets the most guesses correct can receive a small prize.

  • Cocktails – If you’re planning on serving alcoholic drinks, come up with a fun signature drink that goes along with the theme of the shower. You could also do a bubbly bar where you serve champagne or mimosas. For a non-alcoholic beverage, lemonade or tea is always a popular choice. Also, don’t forget to have plenty of cold water for your guests and the mom-to-be!

  • Decorations – The table settings and décor you choose will be based on the theme you are having. Make a designated photo area with props for guests to take pictures. If you really want to wow your guests, rent a photo booth. Afterward, you can put together a book with all of the photo strips you collect at the shower. Paper decorations like pom poms are easy to put up, look great, and they come in a variety of colors. You can also place balloons and flowers throughout the party for another special touch.

While planning a baby shower can be a lot of work, you can make it easier on yourself by being organized and working with a full-service entertainment company, which can save you time.

Other considerations you'll want to evaluate include:

  • Whether or not you will need to rent tables and chairs if the location you are holding the baby shower doesn’t provide them

  • Whether you want to hire a professional photographer or videographer to capture all of the special moments of the event

  • Whether you want to hire a DJ and MC to help you keep the shower lively and on schedule
